It's run by a big eastern syndicate, you know. Let's see just how apt Lucy Van Pelt's word's were!
Well, we have a newbie commenter with Trevor/Sarah and she gets to be the star of this caption, as my soon-to-be former boyfriend. I saw the photo and I just couldn't resist captioning it. Just love the look and it inspired the story I whipped up. I've had conversations with friends over the years about how advertising has crept into every crevice of Christmas, and people don't realize how much it has influenced everything about the way it is celebrated.
At least half was stolen, or appropriated from, other religions, and the other have is stuff we've picked up over the years culturally through ethnic groups or commercialism. It's why I really laugh when I see the hole WAR on CHRISTMAS that is kicked up every year. My GF is a non-religious pagan / wiccan type, and she just LOVES the whole secular ball of wax that is the American standard Christmas business. Getting family together, sending cards to remind others you care, giving gifts and visiting loved ones, eating lots of treats, holiday songs, decorating a tree and filling stockings .. anything that warms your heart and your spirit is right up her alley. Put a Lego Batman in the manger for all she cares about the religious aspect of it.
So that was my point here with this caption and I hope it connects. Christmas is so much more now than just some religion's possible messiah being born. And THAT is the true meaning of Christmas, Charlie Brown .. not Linus spewing off the nativity scene from the Gospel of Luke. It's many different cultures, backgrounds, and wealth feeling a sense of good will towards others, as they draw their own friends and family closer before the cold reality of the harsh winter draws near, regardless of how the yearly December rituals came to be.
See you tomorrow night for another caption!
