What is this? A REAL new caption? Look inside!
Yeah, I know huh? Something that is fresh out of the oven, served piping hot and bursting with flavor! Well, its actually that hopefully warm the heart as well as the stomach. I was looking for something for a newbie at the Haven who had created one of their first captions for me. I liked the idea behind this magic caption she made .. every time I complained about being female, I would age a year. I thought that was such a better threat than say losing IQ points, or gaining breast size. It is probably something that would actually BE a threat if magic happened to really exist and was wielded for revenge upon a cheating boyfriend.
So I wanted to make a different sort of caption, and went to some picture sites I hadn't visited in awhile, and just let the various photos wash over me, looking in particular for redheads in pictures that were visually appealing. The source image I chose was appealing to me, as it had a good angle, and with the way it was composed, I'd be able to put the text into the photo without it being too distracting to the viewer.
I also liked that somewhat confident look on her face .. this wasn't someone that was JUST transformed recently. That gave me a chance to create a bit of a back story, while leaving many details out until the end. The whole vibe of the picture gave me a "mirror revealing the secrets within" and how we often get reflective while viewing ourselves, looking deep into our own souls.
I figured that as she's been Jess for awhile, she was getting that female sense of detail that men often lack. With that trait, she could notice something that was previously hidden .. both physically (in the wall) and emotionally, which would be revealed soon enough. I do hope that it seems poignant, with out being too maudlin. I didn't want it sticky sweet, but I did want to invoke an "awww" from the reader. I'd like to think that if John and Jess ran across each other someday, they'd smile knowingly and give each other a big hug. Its not everyday that people live happily ever after!
DISCUSSION QUESTION: You readers don't mind a sweet caption every now and again, right? They can't all be nasty and sexy and vengeful, eh? I tried making a page JUST for formspring last night, and it didn't quite work. It wouldn't show up as a page. Anyone with a blog .. have you figured out how to get a formspring embed code to work on its own page?
