Merry Christmas Eve .. The Happening II

Twas the M. Night Shyamalan before Christmas .. all over the world! "What? No!"

This was the first Christmas caption I wrote for the holidays, back when I knew I would be making one to post in the 25 Captions of Christmas series on Rachel's Haven. It is so hard to come up with new and original ideas every year. I was pondering, "what sort of traditions do we do that would seem weird to outsiders or aliens from another planet?" and went from there .. especially if it were to somehow translate into TG plot lines.

We try to hearken back to days of old, and one of those is to replicate the various wooded things like pine trees, boughs of holly, mistletoe .. all brought indoors and likely to die quickly due to heat and lack of moisture. Many old film shorts portray these trees as being noble and proud to represent what Christmas is all about, yadda yadda .. but what if they were getting sick of it?

I mean, if you were a tree, would you like being cut away by the roots from your family, brought inside where you knew you were going to die, put a bunch of crap on you including electrical items, and then burned some more of your relatives in a fireplace, slowly draining your life force from you, then threw you out a few weeks later on the street? I'd be pretty pissed about it!

So I had that idea, and then the Mark Wahlberg movie "The Happening" came into my mind. Its a horrible "bad but really enjoyable to watch" movie that has the idea that plants are making people commit suicide .. somehow. They aren't quite sure why .. and then at some point, it just stops. I cannot do it justice other than to tell you to watch it, even if just for the acting. I can't recommend one decent acting performance, and Mark Wahlberg had trouble playing a science teacher. I'm not convinced he was playing a human being!

So I wrote it up as if it was a "good" sequel to the original. I didn't leave any pop culture references to the film in it, because honestly, I wanted this to be enjoyable to read, and possibly imagine happening to all of you out there reading my blog. Definitely tongue in cheek, but not "so bad, its good." If it helps, just imagine the protagonist in the caption as Markie Wahlberg after the tree had its revenge. Maybe she'll be a much better Home Economics teacher!

As is tradition here on the blog, one of my favorite Christmas songs of all time.
Riu Chiu by the Monkees .. done live in ONE take!
